AVÌìÌà Science Fair 2023
KS1 and KS2 pupils from Probus Primary AVÌìÌÃ, Sandy Hill Academy, St Stephen Churchtown Academy and Treverbyn Academy came together at Sandy Hill on Monday 10th July to celebrate a day of science in the first ever, in-person, science fair finale.
Each school displayed their projects in different competing age categories and answered questions from the judges as they came around to inspect their work. There was a real buzz, and the children were eager to demonstrate their knowledge and passion of science through their practical enquiries.
The youngest winner in the ‘home’ category, Jackson, from St Stephen Churchtown Academy Reception Class, explored which sweets caused the biggest explosion in a bottle of Coke.
Lily from Sandy Hill Academy also won in the ‘home’ category with her research into UV fabrics, demonstrating her ability to use and evaluate results from advanced laboratory equipment. In the KS1 category, Sandy’s Maple Class took ‘home’ 1st place with their investigation into materials.
In LKS2, Charlie and Lila from Treverbyn took 1st with their question ‘does gas weigh?’ and Treverbyn also took Gold in the UKS2 category with their heart rate investigations.
The fair wrapped up with a spectacular, high-octane rocket show from the amazing which left the children inspired and full of more super science questions!
Well done to all who participated and a big thank you to who made this event possible through their generous contributions and support.
We’re looking forward to this becoming an annual event and getting even more AVÌìÌà schools involved in the future.
